LG Uplus launches mobile without SIM, will also be cheaper

LG Uplus : LG Uplus, South Korea's third major mobile carrier, has developed technology that will no longer require Subscriber Identification Module (SIM) cards in mobile phones. LG Uplus has developed this technology with its Global Partners Advanced Cellular Module technology.

According to media reports, LG Uplus has developed Verified Integrated Universal Integrated Circuit Card (iUICC) solutions with the help of Israel's cellular chipset maker Sony Semicinductor, local communication module maker NTemore and German Digital Security Solutions provider Gisek Deviant.

The SIM card stores the user's personal information and helps the mobile carrier identify its plans and service. In iUICC technology, SIM will do the work of a communication chip which will provide voice and data connection service. This technology will help mobile manufacturers to make smaller mobiles as it will not have separate space for SIM card. Because of this, companies will also help in reducing the cost of this mobile. LG Uplus said that it plans to implement iUICC technology in Internet of Things (IoT), especially tracking devices and outdoor inspection devices.
